Our Starlight Psychologists uses a variety of evidence-based treatment models to help people cope effectively with life issues and mental health problems. These treatment models are scientifically researched and widely accepted in the medical fields as well as by the Australian Department of Health.

Evidence-based treatments offered by Starlight Psychology but not limited to are:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based psychological approach, which operates on the foundation that thoughts, emotions, physical sensations and behaviours are interconnected. That dysfunctional information processing is believed to be at the centre of the psychological problem or concern. Hence, the aim of CBT is to change problematic emotions and maladaptive behaviours by using cognitive restructuring, modifying cognitive processes, which occur in the form of automatic thoughts and core beliefs. It is the commonly used for treating depression, anxiety disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and eating disorders.
  • Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT) focuses on the way a person has related to significant people in their life, and how this may have affected other relationships and how they feel, think and act generally. It helps that person understand how these factors are operating in their current life situation lead them to become depressed and put them at risk for future depression. IPT is effective in treating depression, anxiety disorder and Bipolar Disorder.
  • Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) focus on becoming aware of all incoming thoughts and feelings and accepting them, but not attaching or reacting to them. It is designed to aid in preventing the relapse of depression, specifically in individuals with Major depressive disorder (MDD).
