At Starlight Psychology, we take a consultative and tailored approach to mental health care. Our personalised treatment plans empower clients with the skills and resources needed to effectively manage life’s challenges and emotional responses.
We understand that each individual is unique in how they experience and respond to mental health concerns. That’s why we work collaboratively with our clients to select the most appropriate evidence-based strategies, ensuring high-quality care in a compassionate, friendly, and confidential environment.
At Starlight Therapy, we want to ensure you feel comfortable and informed from the very beginning. During your initial consultation, our therapist will:
As therapy progresses, we will regularly review your progress to ensure you are getting the most out of your sessions. Your well-being is our priority, and we are here to support you every step of the way.
Our experts utilise a variety of scientifically researched and widely accepted treatment models, endorsed by medical professionals and the Australian Department of Health. Our evidence-based strategies include, but are not limited to:
CBT is an evidence-based approach that recognises the connection between thoughts, emotions, physical sensations, and behaviours. Dysfunctional information processing is believed to be at the core of many psychological concerns. CBT aims to modify cognitive processes, including automatic thoughts and core beliefs, to change problematic emotions and maladaptive behaviours. It is commonly used to treat depression, anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and eating disorders.
IPT focuses on understanding how a person’s relationships influence their emotions, thoughts, and behaviours. By examining these interactions, individuals can address factors contributing to their depression and reduce the risk of future episodes. IPT is particularly effective in treating depression, anxiety disorders, and bipolar disorder.
MBCT encourages individuals to become aware of their thoughts and feelings without reacting to them. This technique is designed to prevent relapse in individuals with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and promote emotional well-being.
ACT helps individuals effectively manage painful thoughts and emotions by fostering acceptance of what is beyond their control and committing to actions that improve their lives.
Psychoeducation involves providing individuals and their families with knowledge about mental health conditions to empower them in managing their conditions effectively. It is beneficial for individuals dealing with schizophrenia, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, psychotic illnesses, eating disorders, and personality disorders, strengthening their coping skills for long-term well-being.
DBT helps individuals regulate intense emotions, build healthier relationships, and reduce self-destructive behaviours. It is particularly effective for individuals with borderline personality disorder (BPD), anxiety, depression, and eating disorders.
EMDR is a psychotherapy designed to help individuals heal from distressing life experiences by reprocessing past traumas. It is particularly effective for PTSD, reducing symptoms such as heightened anxiety, flashbacks, nightmares, insomnia, and panic attacks.
MI is a counselling approach that enhances motivation for change through four key principles:
Resist the righting reflex
Understand the patient’s motivations
Listen with empathy
Empower the patient
Schema Therapy helps individuals change long-standing negative (maladaptive) patterns that have been resistant to previous treatment efforts. It is particularly beneficial for individuals with personality disorders, childhood trauma, PTSD, and eating disorders.
SFBT is a future-focused, goal-directed therapy that emphasises solutions rather than problems. It is suitable for people of all ages and is particularly useful in addressing child behavioural issues, family dysfunction, and relationship challenges.
Whether you're managing stress, anxiety, depression, or seeking personal growth, our compassionate experts are here to help.
